Re: V8 Mileage
my 1982 with a 355ci. edlebrock carb, auto trans with od and 373 gear gets22+mpg on the highway. ive havnt had the truck long enough to take a big road trip that is all jighway yet, but i wouldnt be surprised if i didnt get 25mpg. every tank i check, most every tank avg. about 20-22mpg. i mainly drive 55mph on the route i take with some city mix in there. got the truck a couple months ago and havnt done anything to it yet. it needs wires, plugs and a few other things. its poorly tuned right now. its such a little truck, that it doesnt require hardly any throttle to cruise at 65 on the highway, almost needs no throttle driving 55mph, and wants to drive thry red lights and stop signs. i probly need a stall?? there are many people that run 5.3 and ls1's that get 30mpg. im sure if i beat on this truck for a whole tank, i would see 12-15mpg though.

Re: V8 Mileage
1993 S-10 just completed this Spring, took about 3 months to build.
Engine - 2002 Chev 5.3L with 4L65e fuel injected 3.73 posi with 245\65\15's I get consistent 20 mpg every tank. 22 mpg is the best I got at 60-65 mph. Some people on s10forum (lsx section) are getting 25-29 mpg with the LS1/2 and A4 setup. http://s92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...fullmedium.flv

Re: V8 Mileage
Best I ever got was 23mpg with a 328 in my 87. When it had a slightly bigger built 355 I got about 19. Both at interstate speed.
3.08 gears/700r4 I'm hoping for arond 25 with my 98 Sonoma (305 TPI/700r4/unknown gears still. Probably go with 3.08's again.)

Re: V8 Mileage
I've got an '88 S Blazer with all the options. Built 305 with 9.5: comp. Crane 268 cam, Weiand intake, Holley Street Avenger carb, Mallory HEI, and headers. Running a 700R4 trans with stock converter, 3:42 rear gear, and 265/50-15 tires. It turns about 2200 RPM running 55. I 've been getting about 16mpg everyday in town driving. And about 19 on a longer trip. But, the Blazers are quite a bit heavier than a pickup. It also runs a 14.90 1/4 mile at 94 mph.

Re: V8 Mileage
That video is awesome! Are your wheels painted or just bead blasted?

Re: V8 Mileage
Thank you. The wheels are painted with some left over paint I had from the engine. The wheels turned out pretty good considering if they do chip the paint - you won't really be able to tell since the rims are almost that color when stripped. I might keep the stock 14" rally rims on the truck for a little while come Spring time - it would be a lot of fun...for video reasons of course.

Re: V8 Mileage
ive always wanted to build one of these. but they must be a royal pain to work on once you have shoehorned a v8 into one of these. i geuss it might save you back, not having to reach over the engine bay so far though..
quick question, will a big block fit?

Re: V8 Mileage
Oh yea, a BB will fit. Never done it myself, but I've seen a couple with BB power.
Workin on a small block s10 is easier than a 2.8 or 4.3 one anyday. I'd rather change a motor in my old 87 than change the plugs in 4.3 truck. Very true about not havin to reach so far too! Hahaha

Re: V8 Mileage
I've got a bone stock 350 in my truck (late 70's model), edelbrock performer, edelbrock 600 carb, V8 S10 swap heades, 2-1/2" dual exhaust, magnaflow converters and flow master 40's. I've got 3.73s (one tire fire) and a 700r4 with no lock up, I normally get 16mpg. I wish it was more...
