my new project

i'm getting close to being able to drive and use my latest truck build. i built this mainly because i have a new work truck (furd)i drive almost every where, but i'm not allowed to pull trailers with it, etc. and because i sold my '97 gmc z-71 because it sat for months at a time. i needed a tow pig and something i could use and not scratch my '67 up. it started life as a '70 3/4 ton,sb,t-400,a/c,pb,ps. i purchased it from the 2nd owner,he purchased in '72. i moved the body over to a '72 gmc 1/2 ton lwb leaf spring frame. to power it is a '98carb'ed vortec 350,t-400,3.08 12 bolt w/factory posi..i installed a blazer tank and '05 chevy seats. the cab has a lil' more rust than i would like but it will suit my purpose just fine.should have everthing done and driving it by the end of the month. rusty

Talking Re: my new project

Cool rig. Just curious, though...If you are building a rig to pull trailers, why did you swap from the 3/4 ton gear to 1/2 ton?

My current "puller", 93 GMC 3/4 ton I bought with a blown motor for $800, swapped in a "free" (after I parted the wrecked GMC truck it came out of) 97 Vortec 350, still TBI, LT4 cam, Crane roller rockers, Comp Beehive Springs, new ram clutch/ TO bearing press. plate from EBAY for $75, NV4500 5 speed, 14 bolt full floater 4.10 posi out of green truck in picture is below, along with its eventual replacement, the 72 GMC Super Custom 3/4 ton 4x4 which will eventually get a 355/ TH350. I already scrounged two good OEM fenders, grille and radiator support! Who am I kidding. I will probably keep them both! I have a "thing" for GMC's. They are "PROFESSIONAL GRADE", you know!

i'm not pulling houses. the 1/2 ton z-71 i sold so i could build this one pulled plenty good. the heaviest load i pull is a full size truck and 3-4k lbs of scrap iron on a 16-18' trailer.i've had my share of 1 & 3/4 tons, diesels, bbc, 4.10 gears,4 speeds, and the like. you had really be needing to pull alot and often to justify putting fuel in and wear and tear on them. and this way i can allways upgrade the motor and gears if i really need to.... thanks for the comments......... rusty
