Re: bbc s10

i dont think its so much the high but the width... bbc are crazy wide and to get them between the frame rails would need alot of fab skills... but i would love to see it personally.. what gen s10?

I've seen one a few years ago. I really never got a chance to look it over good, but I don't think it had any frame mods. Maybe around the starter but otherwise I doubt it.
With the right oil pan, I see no need for frame mods. Most of the width of a BB is above the frame rails. The one I seen had stock cast iron exhaust manifolds, and really didn't seem much more crowded than a SB S10 to look at it.
I mean as far as working on it, it seemed like it'd be about like a SB truck.

Depending on the exhaust ya choose, that area may require some frame massaging, but I couldn't say for sure.

Re: bbc s10

I've only done sbc conversions, but there's a guy down the road that had to do extensive firewall work. He finally decided to make it a strip truck because of the hassles he faced. I keep hearing 2 different stories on the bbc conversion. Try this link, it has a wealth of information including part numbers and what not for a clean factory looking BBC in a 1st gen s10

Small blocks barely fit...Big block is a dream, and definately would involve MAJOR fabrication unless you run your exaust through the hood lik a pulling truck. You can build a small block with as much power, cheaper and still have about a hundred pound weight advantage. my.02

Re: bbc s10

well if its an 87 then you have all the room in the world and it shouldnt take much to fab up some mounts for everything... i was thinkin more along the lines of a early 90s+ blazer for some reason.. maybe im still stuck over at s10forum.com... they might be able to answer you question a little better since they have a 1st gen spacific forum..

But why build what everyone else has?? I'm all about building what I want to drive... Good luck, and I hope you go thru with the BBC build.

Re: bbc s10

as far as bbc weighing more and all that i dont think it matters. ya you can build a same hp and tq sbc as a bbc, but bb are way more fun in my opinion and with the same power its gonna be way more streetable. after i took out a built 383 outta my 70 gmc and put a mildly built bbc in it was still way more fun. ill never do sbc again
