heater hoses to engine swapped?
just out of curiousity what would happen if someone were to swap the two hoses going to and from the heater that connect to the intake and to the water pump? what would be the effects if any? would it cause the engine to over heat?

Re: heater hoses to engine swapped?
Hose sizes coming from the heater core should be sized to accomodate the correct fitting on the intake and the water pump. I found out I had mine switched by forcing the wrong hose onto the bottom of the heater core and snapping it off. Not fun replacing stuff due to ignorance. I have the top hose from the core into the intake and the bottom to the water pump. I haven't had any issues. Hope this helps. Not really sure what the outcome is of switching them.

Re: heater hoses to engine swapped?
The two are different sizes,as mentioned above,( 5/8" and 3/4" IIRC) but I don't see how having them reversed would cause any problem at all.
On mine, I have bypassed the heater altogether and there is no difference.

You can take thermostat out & put it into a pan of water on the stove. Put a fire under the pan & see if the thermostat opens. If you have a candy thermometer, clip it to the side of the pan, but don't let it touch the bottom. That way you can see exactly @ what temperature your thermostat opens. If the thermostat works, start looking elsewhere. Start with the simple stuff, is the radiator full, etc? And then move on from there. That's a lot cheaper than just going out & buying parts. If you don't have a candy thermometer, go to the grocery store & buy one. You'll need it for making fudge anyhow. Just my .02.

Re: heater hoses to engine swapped?
having them swapped would not anve any ill effects on your engine, heater, air temp, nor coolant temp.
If you managed to pull it off.... no one would ever know. Till one popped off due to size incompatibility anyways. |

I had an experienced mechanic here in town recommend a warmer thermostat in my 327 based '36 Ford Coupe. I had a 185º in it and he recommended a 195-200º. I followed his recommendation and for the first few days it smelled hot too but it went away after driving it for a while. I don't consider 210º a problem. If it boils over... that's a problem.. Re: heater hoses to engine swapped?
It will work fine, and the hoses can be reversed, it is just a real pain trying to get 5/8 hose over a 3/4 fitting, but it will fit!!!!

Re: heater hoses to engine swapped?
I reversed mine.I don't remember having a problem getting them on and haven't had a problem keeping them on.I'm kinda AR about stuff and didn't like the hoses crossing under the hood. When I asked someone else said they had done the same for the same reason.
