Cummins 4BT in a '47 Chevy

The build that I'm currently working on is a '91 S-10 with a 4.3 V6 / TH700R4 under a '47 3/4 ton Chevy pickup. I've been considering changing the motor to a Cummins 4BT with the same tranny and I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried it or knows what the potential pitfalls of using this engine is?

I know the chassis will support a 350 and that a 350 is about 28" in height and the 4BT is almost 36"... does anyone know if this will be an issue?

Cheers and Thanks,
Ted.

I am not familiar with diesel engines (I'm assuming it's a diesel)---But, I would be cautious of the weight of the engine and the tremendous torque that the diesel makes. Is the S10 frame and front suspension up to the task?

Re: Cummins 4BT in a '47 Chevy

A Cummins 4Bt dry weighs 727LBs nearly double what your 350 chevy weighs. I'am building a 1937 International D-15 pickup on a Cut down 1987 S-10 chassis with a Cummins 4BT and NV4500 but haven't got to mounting engine and trans yet, i do plan to use 3 Gen F body Iroc coils they have a higher spring rate then the S-10 coils. The plan is to get the engine as far off the front axle as i can so it won't steer as heavy. The 4BT is a very large and tall engine, they are also not balanced very well unlike the 6BT's in the dodges so they are noisey and rattle pretty good. If you are building a truck you want very quite inside the 4Bt is not a good choice.
