'73 and up controls arms
I've noticed alot of people swapping to '73 and up control arms.
Whats the reason for the swap? Better ride? Lowers a bit? Last edited by MonteSS454; 01-09-2009 at 01:14 AM. Reason: Can't type in the dark to well. |

Re: '73 and up controls arms
The 73-87 1/2 ton a arms use rubber bushings instead of the 63-72 solid bushings where the control arm shafts atach to the a arms. Some people think they ride better, especially with urethane replacing the rubber ones. I personally prefer older solid ones. You keep them greased and they last prettymuch forever. The newer ones usually have to be replaced every few years as the rubber breaks down.

Re: '73 and up controls arms
They're using them mainly because they are more readily available.

Re: '73 and up controls arms
The Ball joints are also cheaper so if you switch to disc brakes by using later model control arms and disc it cost's less to rebuild the front suspension.

Re: '73 and up controls arms
But the 73-87 control arm bolts right to the 67-72 frame and spindle or do you have to use a 73-87 spindle because of the ball joint differences?
