67-72 radiator Support Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My question is whatis the differnce between a rad. support for a 67-68 and a 69-72? i got a bunch of extra parts with my truck and was trying to figure out if the rad.support i got was for a 67-68 or a 69-72. any help and pictures would be greatly appricated.

67-68 core support has separate headlight buckets and 69-72 headlight buckets are spot welded to the core support. You can make a 67-68 support out of a 69-72 by removing the headlight buckets and putting the square holes in it for the headlight adjusters. If you have both kinds it is easy to see the difference and what you have to do to convert it. I guess you could go the other way too and add the weld on buckets to the 67-68 to make a 69-72 out of it...

so the general shape there is no difference, the only difference is in the headlight mounting area.

The 67-68 also has threaded holes along the bottom edge to mount the splash shield (a small difference that is easy to miss until you start to install the shield!)

I think that there may be some small differences to the contours too. I once tried to mount a factory auxiliary battery tray to a 68 core support and could not get it to properly sit on the core support. It is also very possible that it was just me...

Compare the driver's side of LockDocs's picture with El Jay's picture. They look different to me. It probably doesn't matter unless you want to put in a factory auxiliary battery tray.
