1998 S-10 P/U 2.2 Fuel Pump

This is the 3rd time the fuel pump has expired. The last two have been aftermarket pumps (Pep Boys). From searching around I’ve found that it is a common problem. At $259 + for pumps and I’m retired that’s 1/3 of my income, is there a alternate way to repair? I’m thinking remote electric pump mounted on the frame or firewall. Any input would be very helpful. Also the Hanes manual is very confusing. The picture for the 1998 2.2 SFI looks just like mine but the vin decodes to MPI ????

How much have you spent on the last three & the next cheap pump total?

Corn, Thank yopu for your reply, however you did not answer my question. My question was wether or not I could use an aftermarket external fuel pump and if so what kind. Not what kind of over priced oem replacement plastic pice of junk.

Re: 1998 S-10 P/U 2.2 Fuel Pump

when it comes to fuel pumps for gm trucks and cars, ac delco is the best option. i had 7 years on the original, and 8 months on the aftermarket airtex pump. im not sure what the fuel specs are on your truck, most are high pressure on the full size 60psi. you need to know your running pressure, then find a pump that exceeds that. you can keep putting aftermarket pumps in every year, or put the ac delco in and be done with it. i didnt answer your question either, but corn and i gave the best advise you can get.

Try this guy. He doesn't have any for sale right now, but if you e-mail him, I sure he's got one for a reasonable price. An original GM part is what you need.

I'd bet it has to do with the ethanol in the fuel.
