Ok guys,

So the itch is hitting me already to get to work on this beast again. So anyone that can help with a proper way to mount a 96 Chevy step box on the back of a 67? I know that plenty of people have done this and it should be no issue, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I haven't done one.Most on here are not fans but they can look good.You do need to space the bed so the body lines match.I think the thing that turns most off is the mismatched wheelwell openings.Maybe someone will be able to help more than I so here's a TTT.

im not positive but I know it involves drilling a new set of mounting holes and I think the rears bolt right on to our frames..and for the wheel wells..if you can weld thats an easy fix

You might PM member Mike Nutt. He has one on his truck. If you shave the rear steps, add a roll pan and flip the tail gate handle, the look pretty sharp. I've never understood the "the rear wheel wells won't match" comments. The front and rear wheel wells on most older vehicles don't match. Ain't no big thing.

If i can't find a long step side bed for my '71, i plan on whacking it down and using an '88 to '98 step side bed.

What he means by "the wheel wells dont match" is the wheel opening on our trucks is round and on the newer beds, 73 and up, it is more of a square.

I know most of you guys dont do this to your truck. I changed my mind from the fleetside bed to the newer stepside because a friend of mine in high school had a 71 that was done that way. He has since passed away to cancer. God rest his soul!!

My bed will not be a factory look though, the gas tank door will be shaved. Tailgate handle moved to the inside, roll pan on the rear with bowtie LED tailights (custom made). The license plate will be recessed into the tailgate on the left side at an angle. Original tailight holes, filled in. Rhino lining sprayed both inside the bed, and under the bed (to protect the bottom side), also the rubber pieces that go on the steps will be shaved and I am going to rhino line the tops of the steps with bow tie symbols.

As far as the wheel wells, can someone send me a picture of a mod that has been done to correct the "problem" so I have some ideas on how to fix it.

The name of my truck is "Heaven." I plan on there being a tonneau cover on the bed with an airbrushed scene and the words, "Heaven in my 67!" These mods havent been done yet, but I have a good custom shop near where I live that will be more than willing to help me out with them, paint and body wise!

All the help I can get on this will be greatly appreciated!!

Please post your progress when you get started.My 67 is made of all different year parts so I too am interested in doing the same. If it was all bone stock I don't think I would .-Keith

Looks really sharp when done right ^^

I think if someone is really determined to stand out, graft on the 67-72 step side fender opening onto the 88+ step side. That would be incredibly slick.

Sure beats an oak flatbed.

Justa note:These aren`t Stepsides.The last Stepside was made in`87.In`88 GM came out with Sportsides,a completely different animal.

Here's what I've done for the front. It's one long 1" square tubing spanning the length of the mounting points on the front, with an 1/8" piece of flat stock on top of it.

The truck isn't here with me, so I can't get the back, but basically, I took 2 1" pieces of square tubing, stacked them, then bolted them to each side on top of the frame. This gives the extra length that I needed, as well as a better mounting point.
