static or bags

i have decided to lower my 77 short bed and i want to go with bags but at 17 dont have a big budget so could i static drop then go back and put bags on in a couple more years or just bo it right the first time and save for the bags

if bags is what you really want, save and go with bags. But their not very practical for a daily driver.

But you can get a show-worthy stance out of a good drop kit for a third the price and drive it every day.

I have both ,static on a truck and bags on a blazer,the bags are fun in town but I like the static for the hiway when I go on long trip,don,t have to worry if I,m too low or wearing out the tires or If I broke down with bags in some small town ,where do I get parts,It,s bad enough gettings parts where I am now

Despite all the concerns over bags on daily drivers, a "properly" installed system can be very reliable.


With that said, I suggest you go with a static drop then add bags later. If you run spindles, a flip kit, and C-notch everything will be used when you bag it. You may have to go with a bigger notch if you want to go really low, but a mild notch will still get you down to a decent height.

Here's my 77 with a mild notch on bags. It has stock fender liners and the bed is uncut.

Actually.... I dissagree completly. If you have a truck that is a daily driver and especially still built ot be used like a truck, good riding daily driver, load carrier and a sport truck with great handling at the same time.... A good quality air system is the most effective and efficient means of accomplishing that.

I agree I've been daily driving my bagged truck for about,almost 7 years no problems.

I also agree that N2 has a sweet truck

i think the key word's are "i don't have a big budget" pretty much answer's your own question.i'm damn near fifty and still saving for a bagged setup. but,if you can afford i wouldn't hesitate. i think it's the way to go.

i got my bolt on setup for just under 2000.. if you really do your homework you can find one for half that but you will have to take it to a shop to get put on.. i did mine in my driveway with a few air tools... took me a good weekend but i have yet to drive it... it wont come out of hidding till its done in early spring

true, but i guess what i meant to say was that riding around layin frame is not the best idea for driving around town is it?

yeah laying frame while driving is strictly for highway.... least then when you loose control you take out 10 people behind you.... no really i am totally against frame draging even if it does look awsome.. i save it for when i pull into parking spots... saves on brakes...lol

If I were you I would bag at least the front, it'll be as cheap to do a simple bag kit up front as it would be to lower it with springs and spindles. Then do a flip kit and notch in the back. You could mono leaf it later on with either a bag over axle set up or even a helper bag set up if you still have a tight budget. This will get you low and the front will still be adjustable.

I remeber when I was 17 I half assed alot of stuff and spent money on stuff that I would replace later on, I was never happy with a project because I never built it exactly like I wanted. I would try to spend a little on the suspension, the stereo, the motor, the wheels etc... but it was always a compromise and it was like that for awhile. When I started my last project I sat down and pictured an overall look for the project, I mapped out goals and timelines of when I wanted to be done with each stage, I did my homework and found great deals on every piece that I added and by the time the first show rolled around I was proud to bring it out and show it off. It wasn't the fastest thing there, it wasn't the car with the most money sunk into it but it still had people checking it out all day because of the details and the time put into doing it right or not doing it at all. Don't lower it because you think it's all you can afford, bag it because you know it's what you want! Sorry for the rant

Man that is so true, I remember (not that long ago) being so poor that I
had to rig stuff, rattle can paint jobs, junkyard inspection stickers,
Chinese parts, shop rags stuffed in the motor mounts and for begging for
junkyard freebies all for a $500 beater.
But even when I had cash to spend, it was hard to let it go, so I compromised
on some things, but ending up wasting money on stuff that didn't do what I wanted it to.
I made it harder on myself, because if I wanted to bag the rear on my 77 I
would now have to torch off the hangers I welded on, or run with a mono
leaf, another compromise.

I see a lot of bagged cars and trucks for sale, so they must not be all that
awesome, or they were not built very well.

IMO it shouldn't be done just to "keep up with the Jones's".

I daily drive a 68 mustang i have air bags front and back. Over the last 3 years never had a problem at all.It does ride nice and smooth even on the roughest of roads out there.A good air bag kit is the key most universal kits suck.
