Odd place to rust
At first sight my thoughts were what an odd place to find rust in a truck around here.. then upon purchasing the truck and removing the rear window.. (with hardly a push) out fell about pound of soggy rotten peanuts.. looks like some type of rodent had been using this area as cafeteria and latrine.. Big Bummer!!
It was a real shame as the whole bottom of the truck was rust free!! And to boot it was a 68 Big block 50th.. Oh well.. Another donor... Anyone ever seen one rusted out here before?? |

Re: Odd place to rust
Did someone drill a hole in the top for an antenna? That's kind of a natural place for water to go if the hole leaked.

Re: Odd place to rust
There should be plenty of rusty cabs that have a good patch panel you can cut out and use. may be able to save it after all. I scrapped a rusty cab that was perfect in that area, if I knew you needed it, I would have given you whatever you needed of it.

Re: Odd place to rust
yup i had to replace my cab due to rust out in that area, in my case it came from a leaking cargo light on the outside of the cab. my cab looked perfect too. but as i tried to pull out the back window to repair a few rust bubbles, about 1 to 3 inches of cab all the way around the back glass came out with it. afterwords i wondered why didn't it all fall out at some point, but it never had.

Re: Odd place to rust
Guys.. thanks for all the comments, Sorry to say that it became a donor truck to save a few others.. Yes I could of welded a new roof on it.. But..
Even though it was a 50th, around here they are not that rare (they seem to grow on trees in the NW) it was just not worth the work to fix.. (I would of concidered it if the rest of the truck would of been pristine). I did find another cheap 3/4 ton Big block 50th that has a nice AC cab that is missing the running gear.. Hmmmmmmm.. Do I really need another project????????? |

Re: Odd place to rust
So, with the Studebaker's you have, are you also into the Rockne? I have a buddy who bought a '33 Rockne coupe, complete.
Do you really need any additional projects? Not for us to answer. My wife isn't too happy to have my ONE and only project sidelined on the side of the driveway, much less anything else. Oh well....
