HELP....Shifter NOT SHIFTING To Reverse - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok..you experts.need advice on what to look at...Just got back from an errand and the longhorn will not shift into reverse..Can get it into drive,1 and 2 but the shifter will not go past drive??What do I need to look at..Thanks.........Will wait patiently while I get some ideas on what to look for...Thanks

Look at the linkage while someone moves the shifter to see what it's catching on is a good place to start.

Well here's a new one for you guys to put in your files.After my Longhorn would not go into reverse,I took it in to be looked at.I was told it was the column and that it would probably have to replaced...Made a few phone calls and fellow board member Mark..."LIVERAT" had me bring truck over.He was also dumbfounded as he had not seen this problem before, and he has owned and worked on a lot of trucks.So we took it off and he took the whole column apart,while I looked and learned a lot....Ok now for the clincher,the column pointer had fallen out and into the column,jamming in there and preventing me from going into reverse....Problem solved.......Mark....Thanks for all your help and for the lesson ......I really appreciated the help............
