Question Front Drop Question -- Possibly a dumb question!!

Alright, so maybe a dumb question but I am not for sure so some clarification is desired.

I put 3" drop springs on the front of my 67, which has 72 front suspension under it already. (This is going back to when I had the truck in my possesion before, but I remember that the springs rattled around when you lifted the truck off of the ground and put it on jackstands.) I like the height that it is at right now and I dont want the truck any lower than it already is with the drop springs, so if I install drop spindles on the truck will it lower it anymore or will it just allow the spring to fit in there snug like it should be?

This is the first time I have ever lowered a vehicle so I just want to make sure that I do it right before she is completely road ready. Thanks for the help!!!

Re: Front Drop Question -- Possibly a dumb question!!

If you leave the 3" springs and add 2" drop spindle it will be dropped to 5".

what raggedjim said...

We went with the 2.5 dropped spindles and stock springs on my sons '67 with '72 suspension.

Make sure the springs are installed so they fit into the spring cups right. On my control arms, it had a little indention in the cup like the spring. And so far, no popping springs. I also run drop shocks and they limit the downward travel so the springs never extend out all the way.

Re: Front Drop Question -- Possibly a dumb question!!

You could get some 1" drop springs along with the 2" drop spindles & they would prolly not be so loose when you jack it up

Re: Front Drop Question -- Possibly a dumb question!!

Depending on your wheel choice, 5" drop in the front might not allow for adequate turning. Be sure to look at the start and finish of your project to ensure you won't have to make corrections later.

I know that with a 4.5" drop up front you can run a 20" wheel without any issues (with tire sizes considered as well). Anything past this, IMO, is kind of a gamble... unless you update the a-arms to tublar style.

I'm not sure on the plan for your truck, but good luck with the build! There are no dumb questions, so ask away, that's the only way the rest of us learn too.

Re: Front Drop Question -- Possibly a dumb question!!

I appreciate the help, my drop is a 3 inch in the front and 5 inch in the rear. Not a real drastic drop but good enough for me being as my driveway is long and not the smoothest, would hate to drag it somewhere!!!
