McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint pics
Using stock ball joints
rims are 15" I'm wondering if I did something wrong because, no where does it say I can't use a 15" rim. Last edited by 82Cecil; 01-16-2009 at 11:42 PM. |

Re: McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint
Welcome to the forum 82Cecil. As mentioned, your issue is the wheel you have on your truck. You can grind your a-arm a bit or get a wheel with less backspace or larger diameter.

Thanks for the welcome ! and all the advice too. I'll measure the back spacing tomarrow, I would love to solve the problem with less back spacing and stay with a different style 15" wheel.

ARP will make them to your specs, at a cost of 8-10 a piece...I looked or a long time too couple years ago.

Re: McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint
that isn't alway's the case.mine rubbed, and several other member's did also.some have not however.like n2trux posted,it can depend on backspace and rim width.if you search back thru some older post's,you'll find there's really no pattern to rub issue with stock rim's.

Re: McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint
I measured back spacing on the non original rim I'm trying to use, but to be sure I did it correctly, I'm posting a pic of how I did it.

Re: McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint
Actual backspacing is measured (when ordering wheels) from the outer-most lip. You are down on the bead surface.
I would just trim the a-arm a little.

Re: McGaughy 2.5 drop spindles rub lower ball joint
I would have to say that there is a problem. The whole idea of a 2.5" drop spindle rather than a 3" is to avoid that rubbing problem with 15" wheels. If there isn't a problem and it does rub, the solution is simple, as was suggested, trim the a-arm down, or use a 1/4" spacer. I have done both with no issues. I try to avoid spacers if possible tho.
