Stepside frame to bottom fender measurement please....

I'm going to get my stepside bed this friday. I'm building a wood frame for it to sit on while on my trailer. My trailer has 12" sides and I believe the stepside fenders will hit my fenders if I don't build the wood frame tall enough. I was wondering if someone could tell me the distance from the bottom of the bed cross sill where it sits on the frame and the bottom of the rear fender. Doesn't have to be exact just close. thanks for any help.

Re: Stepside frame to bottom fender measurement please....

The wood frame I will build will also serve as storage for the fleetside once removed. I have some caster wheels that I will attach for ease of movement. Thought about upside down. I have seen several hauled that way. Problem is I don't have enough help to flip it back over once home w/out damaging it. I do have a cherry picker that I can use to remove the bed and move from trailer to truck. so upside right is the best choice. 12" siderails on the trailer. I would imagine that there can't be more that 16" between the bottom of the cross sill and the bottom of the fender but want to make sure as this will probably be used to transport the fleetside down to my brothers. Still be strapping it down and screwing it to the floor of the trailer. Trailer has snow and ice on it so it has to be secure.

Re: Stepside frame to bottom fender measurement please....

I put 14" cinder blocks under mine between the rails and the trailer deck and I just barely cleared the bottom of the fenders, maybe 2" or so. So if you go with something around 16" you should be fine. I have included a pic to give you an idea of how I had it for transport.

Re: Stepside frame to bottom fender measurement please....

Thanks for all the help. I built or overbuilt what will be a dolly that I and the painter will use on the bed. I could have made it shorter by about 8" but I believe it will be at a good height for when they paint prep. Got it home w/out problem but it was like hauling a parachute down the road. I will get my old 36 chevy project truck out of the garage and into storage where the 86 is. I'll be working on the 86 the next couple of weeks before it goes to paint.

Wow that bed looks nice from what I can see. At least you got it home in once piece. I also had a dolly that I had built to move mine around the garage, worked out well.

Chris you wouldn't have wanted the bed. It looked real nice until I tore it apart, turned out it needed both bed sides and both fenders, and its not on the trailer anymore, its back onto the truck, so you can't stop and get it.
