swap to fleet questions
I`m sure there is a thread somewhere but I must not have put the right words in the search box. I`ve gto a stepside and found a fleet bed I want to put on. What will i need to do the swap? Are the fuel filler hoses the same? What about the wiring? I`m pretty sure I`ll need to get a new mount kit but I`m not sure what all else. This is my daily driver and my only transportation at the moment so i can`t afford alot of down time trying to figure out what all is needed. I wan to get a list together so I can get everything I`ll need and just swap it all in a weekend. Thanks.

Re: swap to fleet questions
The only issue i could think of might be the fuel filler hose and neck otherwise its a direct swap.

Re: swap to fleet questions
Thanks. i guess the main thing I`m worried about is the harness back there. can I just use the harness from my stepside for the tail lights or do i need a different harness?

Re: swap to fleet questions
Short of the filler it is a direct swap. I have had both on my truck when it was running.

Re: swap to fleet questions
If it wasn`t my only vehicle I wouldn`t worrie about it. I can splice the harness if needed but I`ve never done the swap so I didn`t know what was involved. The bed still has the fillers with it and it`s in decent shape. I`m going to pick it up and i`m actually kinda getting it for free. I`m doing a trade with a customer for work on one of his bikes. He`s just buying the bed and letting me store it at his place till i`m ready to swap it.

The wiring even if its shot its real easy to rewire it.You should sell your step side someone will want it.

Re: swap to fleet questions
My wiring is perfect. is there a seperate rear harness that unplugs for these trucks? I need to go look through some catalogs and see whats what. I`m planning on selling my bed after I do the swap. It`s in really good shape but this is my second stepside square body and I really like the look of the fleet side.

Re: swap to fleet questions
I believe it does i know the newer ones do its got a plug so you can take the bed off with out cutting any wires.Trace your brake light wires from the lights to the frame you should find that plug.

Re: swap to fleet questions
Thanks. I didn`t see anything on the fleet bed but the tail lights are still in it so maybe I`ll get lucky.

Re: swap to fleet questions
Well I picked up the bed yesterday. It came with both filler necks but I need new hoses and the harness was there but been spliced into for trailor wires so I`m going to redo some of the wires. It also came with a bed liner that I`m not sure if I`m going to use or not.
One thing I didn`t think about though is my bumper. Will my step bumper work for now or will it be to narrow? I`m planning to do the swap as soon as I can round up the cash for the bed mounting kit, fuel filler hoses and vent hoses. I`m also going to rattle can it white primer to kinda match the color of the truck because the bed is dark blue. I`ll get some pics of when i get the swap done.
