wiper arms

Can someone please tell me how the wiper arms are taken off these pickups? I'm sure there's a trick to it but I sure don't know it.

Depends on the wiper. Some have the little clip you slide that is on the side of the arm. The ones on my 71 I use the wiper tool and it pops off easyly enough. A screw driver will also work but may tear up the paint.

As a matter of fact I do now. I just went and clicked these for you. I bought it off the table in a NAPA store.





Here it is on the wiper arm. Just pry it back and forth and it pulls it off.

Arrgh, still can't see what needs to be done to remove these. I can't see a clip other than the small curled piece on the inside edge. I can't see where you would use the tool to release the arm.

I can't take a pic right now as the sun is shining right in the camera lens, so I'll wait until it goes down a little more. I feel stupid this should be an easy procedure!!

If you have the 71 wiper's I don't think you have the clip on the side like I talked about. If you do then a screw driver straight down inside it and then turn it out to open the clip up from the arm.
If it's not got the clip then you just have to pry it off, thats what the tool is for. As I said before the screw driver will work but it get's the paint everytime.

I just use a claw hammer with a rag on the cowel panel. Look for a little tab that needs to be pushed in/out. They can be hard to come off. Put one claw right on that tab or use a screwdriver to depress it. Still use the rocking motion though.

Grab a step stool or something safe to stand on for a better view.

Once you have it figured out you'll be glad you did cause putting them back so they both line up is a daunting task. Such fine tooth incraments.

On my '86 took 2 day's to get them off. Then when reinstalling them I must have removed and replaced atleast 10 times.

You'll get it, they don't always want to come off. Mine didn't anyway.

Here is a pic of the underside of the wiper arm. The little clip I am pointing to needs to be depressed in the direction the pencil is pointing to allow the arm to come off of the wiper stem. It is a little tricky to depress the clip, rock the arm back and forth slightly, and lift, all while not letting the arm spring tension work against you.

In my opinion, there is a tool that is much easier to use. We've discussed it before and NAPA stores sell it. It lifts the base of the arm off of the shaft in less time than I have spent on the first seven words in this reply. No wriggling. No rocking the arm back and forth. No scratching the paint on the cowl. No picture, either.

I used a screwdriver and depressed the small clip you referred to while prying upwards with a wood chisel. Worked like a charm. Thanks for all the help guys.
