Pictures of my engine

A while back, someone asked me to post some better pictures of my engine. Here are a few I took while doing the swap. This engine came out of my drag boat. I raced quarter mile boats in a past life, and kept the engine when I sold the hull. So here are a few pictures of the mill.

Did you install it in the truck already?

What is the compression on it? 11:1, 12:1 etc

That Might be an ice can!!!! I ahve seen something like that !!! you put ice in it to keep the fuel cool!!!

I was gonna ask about the breather can and it's plumbing too.
chevyman... there's no fuel pump, nor fuel line.... it's not an ice can.

OK. The first time I saw this set up I asked the same questions. I found this set up in an issue of fastest street car. There is a company that sells this evac kit. I made my own, because he wanted too much for his. The idea is that heat rises, along with vapor and condensation. This gives the vapor a direct path out of the engine straight from the origin. The crank case. Since I do not use a mechanical fuel pump, there is no push rod or anything in this location to disrupt the flow of vapor. This system acts as a chimney, for a lack of better discriptions, to vent the crank case. To help add to the system, the breather tank with the flow thru element create a vacuum as the air passes thru the element. So what happens is the condensation gets cought in the can, and the vapor escapes. It sounds far fetched, but it dose work. I ran this on the boat when I was racing, and the can would fill up with water after a day of running. Of course, on the boat the lake temp kept the engine from getting hot enough to burn off the condensation. So there you have it.

I attached a few pictures of the engine in the truck, as well as some while in the process and of course, the boat. The engine made 690hp on the dyno when it was built. ( 8 years ago) Now, who knows. It still runs strong, and has no oil burning issues, but this engine was very well maintained throught the years. Before it went into the truck it was freshened up a bit.( Gaskets, oil pump, heads rebuilt, rockers replaced, and roller lifters rebuilt) It seem to run fine. Actually, the first time on the road hammering it, I felt like I was driving the boat again. Same sound, similar acceleration pull. The boat ran in the 10sec brackets, so it pulled on a scary level. Small spec for you, at 6000 rpm, the jet pump pushed 1000 gallons per second. The picture showes it hanging from the scales at a current boat manufacture while we made so mods to the hull and pump. By the way, it weighed in at 1500 lbs with 13 gallons of fuel on board.

So there it is.

oh ok. well i knew that the little crackerjack toys aka over-grown riding lawn mowers on steroids run them so the oil vapors don't get sucked back into the motor. i was just wondering why run one from the fuel pump boss on the motor. thanks! that thing does look dead friggen sexy though!

In the truck, it is sort of in retirement. I don't run it that hard in there. A street race or so, mabe a good burn out to get my fix, but that's about it. I love that thing! I have had it since I graduated from high school in 91. The truck that is. When they kick the dirt in around me, they can figure out what to do with it.
