Starters & Headers
I just put headers and dual exhaust on my truck. And the very next day the starter died.
I didnt have money for heat wrap for the starter when I put the headers in but I figured the starter could last a couple weeks until I got some. Can the heat from headers kill a starter this quick? Would having a starter from an automatic car in a truck with a maunal transmission have anything to do with it? I fit and worked fine in the truck. This was a rebuilt starter that was already several years old and had been sitting for a few years. Is it just a coincidence that it died when it did? I have another starter that I can put in it but I dont want to put it in without heat wrap then have it die again so soon. Next time I probably wont get lucky and be on a steep hill when it dies.

Re: Starters & Headers
I think it,s just coincodince that it died.I have had quite a numbers of vehicles with headers and never wrapped the started without issues. If the starter heats up it may not be as powerfull though

Re: Starters & Headers
probably a coincidence. When you put the new starter in put a remote solenoid on it right away

Re: Starters & Headers
i's called starter heat soak.it's fairly common and effect's cheap and worn starter's more.heat causes expansion and make's it harder to turn over.they make heat sheilds for this.i went to a small high torque mini.and never have had it happen since.they cost a little more.but well worth it in my opinion.
