valve cover breathers
i have a PCV valve hose hookup on my air filter(edelbrock) and on my carb so witch one should i use as a breather for my valve covers and for a little while my left valve cover had just a regular air filter breather on it and after it would warm up smoke would come out of the breather...why is this?...it never did this on the right hand valve.

Re: valve cover breathers
Yo! pokethesmot!
I like to use the hookup closest to the manifold. In fact, I set my engines up so that the PCV dumps into the manifold directly or through the base of the carb. That way the burnt oil/fuel fumes from the PCV don't go through my carb. Smoke from the breather is the burnt oil/fuel gases escaping past the piston rings and vaporized oil from the crankcase. That's why the engine has Positive Crankcase Ventilation,...to suck those gases into the intake for burning in the cylinders. The older the vehicle, the more smoke due to increased clearances, and more escaped gases in the crankcase. Perhaps the right hand side has collected more gunk and the left is the path of least resistance. Todd.

Re: valve cover breathers
Todd said it all. Thats the way I do mine. I run a breather on one and the pvc to the carb base on the other side. Works fine for me.
