Hi from England

Hi all.
thought I'd be the only non-American registered here, but I hsee that the guy who's post is directly below this one (well it was when I started writing this anyway) is from France.
Anyways I am the (sometimes) proud owner of a '74 Chevy C30.
It's far from stock, in looks at least, and is somewhat of a lemon - but that's what I get for buying on ebay.

I found this forum while looking for a solution to the latest problem with it (which I'll post elsewhere), and figured that this looks like a nice friendly place, so rather than lurk around and just look for answers to the next problem here, I'll register, stick around, and say hi now and again.

As I said, she's a '74 C30, 454ci, 3-speed auto.
When I bought her she was in OK, and it cost me as much to ship her to the UK as it did to buy her.
I haven't driven her too much as she needed a LOT of work to be legal to drive over here, and then things started breaking.
But at an estimated 8-12mpg she'll be expensive to drive much around here anyway.

Oh, I also have a '78 Firebird.

Anyways, that's me.

Re: Hi from England

I worked a couple months in the UK this past year,I had a flat in Colnbrook then I moved over to Uxbridge. You have to be a brave soul to drive a C30 over there streets are real narrow! Welcome to the forum from Texas.

Cheers..

Re: Hi from England

Brave or foolish!
So long as I stick to bus routes I'm OK, they're a fraction wider than me.
I have managed to get it down some 6'6" restricted roads so it's only the real backroads that give me trouble, but as I'm bigger than most of what will be coming the other way I don't have to beck up too much.

The motorways are fun though...
Driving back from the docks when I first picked her up was fun, there's a long steep hill along the M2 running coastbound to Chatham, and I figured I'd see just what a 454 can do, so I floored it.
The look on the driver of the Porsche I passed was hilarious!
The look on my face as I watched the fuel gauge needle drop was probably just as hilarious!

The bus drivers over there scared the living crap out of me......they could get that bus down some very tight streets at a high rate of speed! Still carry my Oyster card, I learned real fast to make sure and have that with you at all times.

Re: Hi from England

Yeah I have a few of the Firebird. Wasn't sure they'd be welcome on a truck forum though
(there's a ton of forums for vehicles like that)

And here she is being filmed for an episode of a TV show called 'Murder in Suburbia' (a fairly naff crime-drama show here in the UK)

Sadly though, she's up for sale (has been for a year now)
