I dunno dude, if his has been rebuilt, forget the vortec. My '73 400 only had a flat tappet cam, performer intake and carb and made around 300hp and 413ft-lbs. with no headers.Vortecs didn't make that. I think the extra 50 cubes can make up for the vortec heads on a 350. Mainly if he got rid of the smog cam, he's way ahead. Heads and roller cams don't matter much if they're just the OE junk anyway.

The 400 may have the 350 beat in the power department, but the newer truck most likely has gearing on his side, if not from the axle ratios, he has a 4l60 with a deeper first gear.
