The light rearend with leaf springs is a tough one on wheel hop. What kind of shocks are you running? If it were me, I would look into doing a Cal Tracs addition to my suspension.

You need to prevent the springs from wrapping up. You can either buy some bolt in caltrac bars or put in an extra shock on the rear like the Dodge SRT-10s have. Caltracs would be the best option as they will imrpove traction significantly.

You can install them and drive, or you can spend the time to really dial them in with very incremental adjustments for racing...there are a few 8 second Novas in my area that run the Cal Tracs. I also have a friend who makes his own that is less expensive. I can contact him to see if he has the specs for your year truck.

Re: wheel hop like crazy

I was racing my GMC (leaf spring) and I got axle wrap enough that I completely sheared off one of the caps on a U-joint.

If you want to lower it, I would just swap over to a trailing arm suspension. You should be able to find the arms/brackets in the salvage yard pretty easily (in good condition in California!). Bags are easy to install with trailing arms.

Re: wheel hop like crazy

If you lower it and do a flip kit in the rear you should buy new spring perches and weld them onto the underside of the axle. Otherwise you could possibly rip the perches off if you use the brackets they give you. I did this when I actually hooked up at the track. I put a dent in my driveshaft and screwed up one of the u-joint.
