Big Notch - Little Towing..

I was thinking, Since I am going to notch my truck in the rear(maybe, again, still dunno, probably, yes) and would still like to be able to pull lets say a boat. I have an idea that needs opinions.

When notching the rear you cut out a good portion of the frame (about 8" to 10"), burn in a bridge of sorts. If you pull with this set up the bridge will want to seperate to the point of failure.

But what if you take 2 slabs of 1/4" flat stock about 5" by i dunno twice the gap for the bridge(if you remove 8" of frame maybe these scab plates should be 16" to 20" or more. Make 2 sets, or 4 plates to sandwitch the frame rails on each side.

So on a nice day you could be pimpen with a nice low ride.

When the situation arises you would bolt the above mentioned plates in(simulating the stock frame rails). Obviously preventing a slammed stance but adding support so the notch/bridge won't spread. Dump the boat in the water - remove the plates, slam it and go get some lunch.

Here's the deal, with bags(owe the location of the bags are going to be criticle for this to work)

And the question: If you lay out with a notch, is it posible to calculate how much travel you would get with the plates in(as if the frame was stock)?

I guess it would be some kind of spreader bar.

you dig,

Have fun with this one guys/gals.
