Saturday Road Trip.....DFW Swap Meet
Well, I hit the highway this morning and braved the cold winds and enjoyed the first of many swap meets. The swap meet was in downtown Ft. Worth, TX @ Lagrave Field. There was a lot of activity there, even though the weather was not of the most desirable kind.
There were lots of things to oooo and awwww over and believe me I did my share of oooing. There weren't as many '67-'72 trucks as I'd hoped to see, but everyone that I met were more than happy to let you open the doors and be nosey. Of course, most that were there had for sale signs on them, hence them being at a swap meet. I saw a little bit of everything, even a blast from the past. There was an old man trying to sell a couple of old Honda Trail/Mini Bikes. I put in a lot of hours on this type of bike in my younger days! He was kind enough to let me hop on the Trail Bike and take it for a spin. It was great and sure stirred up some fond memories. Signs, interior parts, exterior parts, tires, wheels, motors, trannies, cars, trucks, bikes, bicycles, die-cast cars, junk.....you know how these things go......and heaters.....no they weren't for sale...they were there to warm up the vendors. Oh, and I can't forget the guy who shared some tamales w/me! I mentioned they smelled good and he said, "My wife made them yesterday.....here give 'em a try!" ......he didn't have to ask me twice!!! I purchased the kits for my door windows (sweeps, felts, and stuff), door seals, deluxe side markers, and the metal plates/gaskets/screws to put my mirrors on. The only thing I didn't find that I needed was a turn signal switch wiring harness. All in all it was a really good day......and the cold wasn't all that bad if you were prepared. I was there too.
There seemed to be lots of 50-54 Chevy cars for some reason. The high point was a big (maybe 2 ton) 55 Chevy or GMC wrecker. I almost kissed it. Go to the Decatur swap meet in Feb. Its about 8 times bigger and kicks off spring. |

Looks like it was fun. Missed all the Houston swap meets last year because of work. Working during the Decatur meet. Looks like I will make Pate though!
