Re: RAT ROD rant

I hate to say it but the "Rat Rod" label is here to stay! You know when Hot Rod mag. done a 5 page patina article we were in trouble! Rats or whatever you want to call them are just like any other rig...you have some that are done over the top and you have some that are just plain turds!! (i like the ones that fall somewhere in between.) I hope the trend slows down a little so i can buy a 47-53 farm truck without the owner wanting 15 grand because one "just like it" sold on e-gay for twenty grand!!

For the record, I hate the term 'ratrod'.
Right on protrash or for that matter never finished

Re: RAT ROD rant

I have always liked flat paint! even my bicycles grown up i would make them flat. I hate worring bout my nice new 6k paint job when i go to the store. RUST! i hate rust! I like a straight body no rust! As far as putting new stuff in old truck. I'll do it if its at the right price. I took leather seats out of a 93 mustang gt and put them in my 86 toyota truck. Price was right. Free and way more comfy then the crapy bench seat. I'm all about function! my 66 c-20 will never see glossy paint job. but it will see parts from newer trucks! like the whole front suspension is coming from a 77 chevy truck. junking the power booster in favor for hydra boost out of a 05 yukon. The list goes on.

Re: RAT ROD rant

Rat Rod: If it means not being a slave to fancy paint, I'm for it. If it means letting stuff rust and fall apart, count me out. Must be roadworthy of course.

Re: RAT ROD rant

just to make perfectly clear I do not have a problem with flat paint jobs or unrestored trucks/cars just people labeling a run down P.O.S. a rat rod and asking 4 times what it should be worth. I added a pic of my car as you can plainly see it is primer and flat black.

Re: RAT ROD rant

When I get done with my boys 66, I want to build a street legal vintage modified type of car.

63 Ford Falcon with open wheel front end and lotsa rubber!

I got a feeling it will get the Rat Rod label.

Im cool with that.

Re: RAT ROD rant

joey~ap, funny you mention that, because this spring I am going to get the wheels turning on the same type of build...
I already have a 410 posi 3/4 ton rear, tires,4spd, and a 396.
I have a line on a 57 chevy ex stock car body that I will use, and I want it to end up looking something like these:

Re: RAT ROD rant

Jon,

Those old race cars are sweet! I have found pages and pages of vintage stock cars and modifieds. I cant quit loolkin at em!

I used to race stock cars on a local 1/4 mile dirt. Wife made me quit. Didnt make no promises of not buildin one that is street legal!
