my project 79 stepside chevy bed
This is an old truck of my dad's that I have decided to make a useable good truck for around the house. I have been lurking around for a while. This an excellent site.
My first part of this is to tackle the old rotted bed. I used the Mar K steel strips and bolt kit. I also used cabinet grade oak finished with golden oak stain and 4 coats of helmsman polyurethane. These are cell phone pics so they will not be good quality... I decided to use the do it yourself bedliner stufff for several reasons. I plan on using the truck some. I will not haul hay once a week, but did not want to be scared to load a little lumber in it. Another reason was cost. I only have about $500 in the entire thing. And lastly I don't know yet what color I am going to paint the truck. I figured black matched anything. I also like the idea of a little new and little old. Right now the tuck has an ailing late 60's 327 and TH350. I am going to rebiuld the tranny and get a solid 350 ( already got one bought actually). I want to use a little upgrade in the interior, but no over board. Currently it is red and I can't stand it. Will try to go with late model seats (bench or bucket) and grey or black accents. |
