cross over U joint

Does anyone have the NAPA part number for the U joint to adapt a 89 full size chevy car driveshaft to a 71 C10 . the new kids at NAPA are sort of usless. they aready sent me 2 of the wrong ones

most parts stores dont carry conversion joints, have to go to someone who specalizes in drivshafts

Napa part #NPJ P372, but they are simply re-boxed precision joints or as they're known in the driveline industry, junk. They typically have so much end play that the drivelines can't be balanced. Do yourself a huge favor and find a driveline shop that is a Neapco or Spicer WD and ask for a 1310/3r conversion joint (Neapco P/N 3-3130HD, can't recall spicer's number at the moment). It will be twice the joint as the one NAPA sells and probably be cheaper to boot. If the joint being replaced in your '89 driveshaft is still the factory one it's retained with injected plastic. We have a fixture to cold shear them in a press, but if you have to go the torch route, be sure to heat only the back of the cap and not the ears of the tube yoke (metal can get funny after getting red hot, like brittle) until the plastic is pushed out. If NAPA can't get you what you need, shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up.

i just went in the driveline place told them the drive shaft i had and what is was going in and he pulled it right off the shelf i didnt know what it was called he said its a cross joint dont remember the # but i do know it was a spicer part

what lenth does your driveshaft need to be/tailshaft to center of ujoint on pinion yoke at ride height?
what pinion yoke do you have/what series ujoint does it take?
what trans are you using?
do you have a trans yoke?
what series ujoint does your trans yoke take?
i have generally found that if your time is worth anything to you its best to just have a new one made, or if your old one is too long/2 piece. have a driveshaft shop make it into a 1 piece the correct lenth, reusing your pinion yoke and weld yokes can save you some money. and you know what it is know its straight know its balanced and know it will work/
if you were to find a driveshaft from another car that fit, it would probably be rusty, and you wouldnt know if it was bent or out of ballance and would probably require new ujoints.

ALL THESE DAMN QUESTIONS!!!! j/k...i have a short tail 350 trans, haven't measured yet but point well taken, I will take the old shaft with me to a shop when I go...i've just been hoping theres some easy ass answer......sorry for the thread jack

a 89 Caprice driveshaft is 58 1/4" it fit a short bed with a 2004R,just need the crossover Ujoint
