bumper straightening

Is there such thing as a place that can straighten bumpers?

I have the original dealer installed rear bumper for my '62. It has the dealer's name and city engraved in it. The bad thing is, its pushed in on one side. I would like to straighten it and put it back on the truck to keep the truck original.

Does anyone know of a place that can do this? Preferably near the Dallas / Ft Worth area.

how bad is it, I straightened mine a little bit with a 3 and 8 pound sledge, and a chunk of railroad track for an anvil...wore me out though
you should have some chrome/replating shops in your area (big city) they usually straighten before they replate.

also.. have you unbolted it from the truck yet? sometimes the bent braces are what is holding it in the bent shape.....

It is off the truck. The left bracket is bent, but I think it can be re-fabricated pretty easily. The left side is pushed in about 4-6 inches, no creases though. I think if someone heated it up and put it in a press, they could straighten it back to normal.

Try and tie a rope to it and to something solid like a pole or something and use the truck to put tension on it the heat it up very little with a torch, take your time with it and it should come out a lot closer to where its suppost to be.

If you look at the bumper on my truck you can see where I heated it up with a rose bud and then layed it out on a metal table and started hitting it with a sledge. It was bent up pretty bad. Once I got it fairly straight I clamped it to the table and stared working it using the rose bud and sledge. Before I started you would of thought it was unusable. I just needed a bumper to do my mock up and this was what I had so, I figured if it didn't work I wasn't out anything. It actually came out pretty darn good. Good Luck.

They exist. Theirs an old man in south houston Texas that has a bumper hammer. He is real reasonable. You rear bumper is alot harder to straighten then a std bumper. Most of those are pretty thick steel and you probably would be better of like above. Use a torch and hammer
