55-57 2nd series question

My brother asked me to post this question up for him since he is interested in getting a 55-57 chevy truck. We are really wanting to know what the differences are from one year to another? We see the different grills but what else besides that? Anything else on the outside or maybe the inside that we might be missing? He really wants a 57 but ran into a great deal on a 56 so he is in a loop right now. Thanks guys.

Re: 55-57 2nd series question

IIRC 55 2nd and 56 pretty much the same, 57 had a fishmouth grille and the bullet type hood. I think the badges may have changed some but cant recall 100 %. I have been off my '56 project and on my son's '67 for about the last year... Good luck with your search

Re: 55-57 2nd series question

55 and 56 have same grill, 55 had the emblems on the fender "below" the crease in the fender, in 56 the emblem was above the crease, i believe that the hood emblem was different for all 3 years, although most people probably wouldnt be able to tell, the 57 had the mouth grill and the ridges in the hood like My67Truck said. dashes are all the same, all 3 years you could get the big back window or the cameo option. , now GMC's had different hoods/ dashes/fenders, etc, than the chevy's and i have seen guys mix and match chevy and gmc stuff so be a little careful. hoods are pretty easy to find in good shape at a swap meet, and grills are made aftermarket, so a 56 to 57 swap would be pretty easy.

Re: 55-57 2nd series question

Jim Carters site (oldtruckparts.com??) has a write up in the front pages of the online catalog that lists the detailed differences too.

Re: 55-57 2nd series question

The 58-59 have the dual headlights. They are valued a little less then the 55-57. Some 58-59 had the Fleetside beds. There was the Cameo which is valued more then any of them. It was available 55-58. The 57 up had a dished steering wheel & used a shorter steering column. The 55 6 cyl. Had a different shift linkage setup. To change to a v-8 you have to use the later shift linkage. Fantastic trucks.
