steering wheel shake
k so i was cruising along the highway at 60 and i slowed to 50 and the steering wheel started to shake slightly, the truck stayed in a straight line. i clamped down on it with both hands using all my might to stop it but didnt affect it at all. im thinkin its either algnment or the tires arnt need to be balanced. other than that im not quite sure.

Re: steering wheel shake
Are you braking or coasting when this happens?

Re: steering wheel shake
It could be warped rotors if it happens when you're slowing down. That is if you have disk brakes up front.

Re: steering wheel shake
If it happens when you are applying the brakes I would say warped rotors or rotors with hot spots.
The cure is to turn (resurface) the rotors or replace them. If you aren't hitting the brakes at the time I would lean towards loose steering or suspension pieces. Wide tires or deep reverse rims will usually magnify any front end issues a truck might have. An out of balance wheel/tire assembly will usually vibrate both accelerating an decellerating if the vibration is at a certain speed. I'd still check the wheels and tires out for damage, broken belts or signs of a weight being tossed off recently. Also if it gets driven on dirt check for a collection of mud in one spot on one or more wheel (s). |

Re: steering wheel shake
happens when im coasting, accelerating, or crusing. but what stumps me is that it doesnt do it all the time. it has drums on the front, applying the brakes doesnt do anything. il probably take her to school this week and put the tires on the balencer, see if it helps or not

Re: steering wheel shake
It's winter... when was the last time you checked your tire pressure?

Re: steering wheel shake
If it does it at certain speeds only I would look at balancing the tires. JMHO.
