6.0 in 67 C20 frame - motor mount setup?
Now that the 6.0/4L80E is home I am working on collecting the parts for the install in our 1967 C20. I ordered engine plates from street & performance. Nice pieces. Was told that I can use stock chevy mounts and the factory motor stands that the original 283 was on.
I decided to bolt it all up tonight while having a cold one and listening to the Sharks beat up on the Coyotes. I wanted to viualize how this will fit (or perhaps not) between the rails. Here are some pictures. My question to those more experienced. Will this setup really work? Or is it just going to be too tight? What about headers? I can see right away the factory logs are not going to fit. The AC compressor will be in the way. I expected that. Any comments or input from those with a 67 who have installed a 5.3/5.7/6.0 gen III will be most appreciated. |

I ordered the tubular mounts from performance online. They fit good. Haven't had a chance to fit the headers yet though.

I too have questions about this exact setup and am very interested in others opinions. Are these the set back plates?? Has anyone installed a 5.3 with these same stock towers? More pictures would be helpful. Thanks

Performnce online. Came with tubular mounts, old style motor mounts, trans crossmember and hardware.. Good kit I though. We'll see how the pace setters long tubes fit..

Thanks Trevor for the feedback and pictures.
I like those tubular mounts you got from perfromance online. I like how bolt in with the 1967 frame rails which are wide on the top, not narrow. I would not like to have to notch my top frame rail to accomodate engine mounts. If I can make the setup I took pictures of work (which I have been told works) then I will stick with it. Prathbun - These plates are the standard LS1 plates from S&P. A little pricey but very nice and beefy thick. They are suppose to place the LS1 in the same location as the stock 283. Now S&P also has a set that moves the engine back 1" closer to the firewall. Since my truck is bagged I am going to swap the truck oilpan for a camaro pan which is 3" shorter. I just happen to have a blown up Camaro 98' LS1 longblock and think I'll use it for test purposes to see the fit before laying in the 6.0 LQ9 |

I just dropped a 5.3 into my 72 and heres the ones I used, they worked great and made it seem too easy.I can snap some pics of the oilpan so you can see where it outs it as far as clearance with the x-member

rcahn, I've got the same style mounts (unfortunately I haven't used them yet so I can't speak from experience.
I see alot of people using the tubular kits, I guess the main benefit is clearance for a variety of exhaust (f-body, etc...) I believe the Doug Thorley headers will fit with the plates/stock stands, but I am going to try GTO manifolds. The a/c compressor will also fit, but it's the frame that interferes and has to be notched. If you want to relocate it the least expensive kit is made by www.kwikperf.com ($200) but you have to use a sanderson style compressor. Not to jack, but does anybody know where can you get the countersunk bolt for the plates? Mine came without them...

I read some post on LS! tech.com (I believe) that suggested John Deere for a great bolt selection. Now, the post said grade 10.3... I haven't heard of if, might just be a misprint, but I'm assuming that the person might mean grade 8.
