Re: Fuel pump
Pretty easy, unhook and rehook a hose and a line and 2 bolts. it can be a bit tricky sometimes to get the pushrod and arm back together. Just put some heavy grease on the pushrod to hold it up in the block. you'll know what I mean when you get it apart.

Re: Fuel pump
The last pump I put in, I used a "pencil type" magnet to hold the rod up with the right hand while I positioned the pump arm in front of it and ran it in there. It worked real slick and was much less messier than using the grease method.

Re: Fuel pump
I usually use a long heavy (thick) feeler gauge to hold the rod up and the insert the fuel pump arm under it. After that NO problem.

Re: Fuel pump
In the front of the eng near the fuel pump you will see a bolt into one of the holes origionally for a front mounted engine mount back in the 50's. If you don't have AC this bolt is just "there" not holding anything. Thats because it goes into the push rod passage for the fuel pump so they had to plug it with something. Just take it out and with a pencil magnet hold the push rod in place or GENTLY screw a long 3/8 bolt in against the rod to hold it. Jim

God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose. |

This is a truism, however, if your engine is like mine there is too much stuff in front of the bolt to take the time to do that. I am usually in enough of a hurry, that I use another way and get back on the road. |
