0.5mm. Sorry I couldn't resist.
I'm no expert but I can't imagine you would ever see a performance difference on a stock type engine. I would be more interested in the quality of the wire brand.

I agree with 49. Larger wire offers less resistance for the electrons to pass through wire but for stock, 8 mm should be plenty.
