My 283 is mounted in the 6 cyl position. A bit close on the dizzy but there is enough clearance. I have driven mine like this to TN, CO, Kansas City, and hundreds of miles in between with no problems. I installed an electric cooling fan so I don't have any issues with the shroud/fan. I also have the HEI dizzy which is a bit larger than the points or other ones. Have about 1/4" between the firewall and the cap. As long as your motor mounts are good, you shouldn't have any problems.
