need opinions
I have a 56,I bought 20yrs ago that the bed was shot. 8yrs ago I ran across a 95 stepside for 150.00 so I bought it , had to set my diff back 3" to fit in the wheel wells, had a new drive shaft made, exhaust is clearanced for the 95 bed. Today I ran across a 56 bed in above average condition ,CHEAP, so do I buy the 56 bed and rework everything that I have allready done? All I have left to do on the 95 bed is shave the back step and lower the front one, maybe 2 weeks of work compared to 2 months of work on the 56. Man my head is spinning!

Re: need opinions
Some guys hate the newer beds on the old trucks. If the front steps are reworked to fit the back of the cab I think they look O.K.
As solidaxle said..... which one do you like? Kim |

Re: need opinions
Even when done nicely with the steps blended into the cab they end up looking like a late model box on our trucks. I thnk I'd still go back to the original box but in the end it's your decision how you want it to look.
Jusy my 2 cents

Re: need opinions
In my opinion I think all builds should follow a theme. Stock looking truck with modern bed not so good, custom truck with modern bed can be cool. If the build is well thought out and the bed does not look like an after thought it can be good looking. I think its cool to be different, if we all thought the same we would have the same truck. Here is a truck that I think the modern bed is nicely done. I don't look at a cars or trucks at shows for what I what them to be, I look at the craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Re: need opinions
That blue truck was the way I was going to set it up to look like. But I also bought the 56 bed I couldn't pass it up for 150.00. If I don't use it some one else will.

Re: need opinions
I think the example Kabwe posted is awesome. Instead of those euro taillights some nicely frenched in Caddy's would look good
But like everyone has told you, it's what you want it to look like not us. |

Re: need opinions
yeah that would look nice would have gave it a smoother look, I also would have painted the door handles body color. I don't care for that black contrast. But the craftsmanship on this truck is really nice. Everything is done so well.

Well I picked up the 56 bed today, great shape, but now I need your help. It came with no floorboards and I can't rember how they mount up. So if you can please post some pics of your boards and mounts. Also any one that changed from leaf to coil spring I'd like to see your setup thanks

i even had a latemodel bed on my '57. but it was an easy-out and quicker way to get the truck on the road. I didnt have the time or decent bed sides to build an original bed, so i stuck a '94 chevy stepside bed on there. I have since made a custom bed and installed it and i looks much much better, as i knew it would. This is just my opinion, and the latemodel beds do have their place. They look decent on the tri-fives, but look like they were made for the 67-72 trucks
