292 throttle linkage
Hi All,
I just joined the site and I am looking for some help. I have a 1970 3/4 ton, 4X4 with a 292 and 4-speed manual transmission. When I got the truck, the motor was out and I finally got it back in the truck (rebuilt bottom end). I can't figure out how the throttle linkage goes. I know there is a threaded rod that attaches to the gas pedal level on the firewall. There is also a pivot type bracket on the intake manifold. The bracket on the manifold has a ball stud on it as does the level on the carb. I must be missing a part that attaches the two? Does anyone have a picture of the throttle linkage on a 6 cylinder? I have attached a picture of what is on the truck (hopefully it comes through). Thanks for any help. |

Re: 292 throttle linkage
You may have to bend up some 3/16" rod to make your own linkage. This is on my modded 250 but you get the idea.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
I'll go get a picture now. Are you close to Frenchtown, MT? Just curious...I am trying to find the owner of an Avion camper there. Be back in a minute.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
Thank you for the pictures. It is just what I needed. I am missing the rod that connects the pivot bracket on the manifold to the bracket on the carb. Any ideas on where is get one? I live about 2 1/2 hours north of Frenchtown, MT which is near Missoula. I get down that way every so often if you need something. Thanks again.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
I am looking for a Avion camper that was for sale in Frenchtown in mid December...it never sold so I am hoping that it is still there. I was not able to contact the owner since the auction is over. I called and emailed a woman that works in Frenchtown to see if she knows the owner or has seen the camper. We will see how that works out. 2.5 hours is way too far for a wild goose chase...LOL! Thanks for the offer though.
Here's what an Avion camper looks like. This is the perfect restoration piece for my 1968 Longhorn.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
Do you have a spare rod that connects the two brackets? If so, I would be happy to pay whatever it is worth along with the postage. Just let me know. I will keep an eye out for the camper when I make it back down to Frenchtown. Just last night I bought another 1970 1/2 ton pickup, 4X4 with a 350. The body is shot but the power and drive trains seem decent. The price was right.
Thanks again for the help |

Re: 292 throttle linkage
I don't have an extra but will have a close look at mine later to see if it could be replaced with a modified bolt or piece of bar stock.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
psiegmund, I may have that linkage part in my box-o-goodies. Just so we're on the same page you said, "I am missing the rod that connects the pivot bracket on the manifold to the bracket on the carb" the part you need is a small thin rod, not the rod going from the pedal to the swivel bracket or the bracket going from the swivel to the carb itself? Is the underlined part what you need?

Re: 292 throttle linkage
Hi Brad,
Yes, I need the small rod (it has a ball type stud on each end I think, maybe 2 inches long) that connects the pivot bracket to the level on the carb. If you can take a picture I could tell you for certain. Thanks for checking, Pete |

Re: 292 throttle linkage
Ok, here ya go. Sorry the pics suck. The bracket is different but the rods are the exact same, but no ball studs anywhere on these. Let me know if this is what you need and it's yours as a door prize.
After looking closer at stlookn's pics, I don't think this is what you need. Sorry, I tried.

Re: 292 throttle linkage
Hi Brad,
Thanks alot for taking the time to look and send the pictures. You're right that it is not quite what I need. If I can't find the stock rod I need, I might be able to bend up a thin rod similar to the ones in your picture. I attached a picture (not a good one) of a similar rod off an old International pickup I had. Thanks again for taking the time, Pete |
