It sounds like your engine has a bad case of bad accelerator pump in the carburetor.

I'd rebuild or replace the carb (it is a four barrel isn't it?) and finish it off with real good tuneup.

350 Chevys respond real well to a an Edelbrock Perfomer on the street. This seems to work especially well in our trucks. If you don't have one you you can usually find a decent one on craigslist for under 75.00 Also a good set of dual exhaust to get the gasses out.

Although I've been guilty of automotive speed indiscretions in the past involving contests of speed on the street I would suggest taking it to a legal strip, pay the entry fee and race each other during time trials. You don't have to race during the regular races but you can make a few legal side by side passes to see who gets bragging rights and not worry about a ticket in the process.

Haha that sounds like fun I'd go with a TH350 with a shift kit plenty of power with that motor combo it's not like you are trying to Beat a Vette or a 93Super charged Cobra Thats Just a little Pony you are trying to baeat Not a Venomous Snake haha. Or Better yet Go Big More Cubic Inches A big Block would be nice.. I'll lend you my 88 Honda Civic So you can beat him then you can feel good about beatting him with a 4 banger, He wont be laughing then when he gets beat by a Stock 1.6

Re: what'd it take to beat a 96 v6 F#%D mustang...

Build something like this and there will not be many getting away from you

I ditched the 307 with the 3spd on the column. I did not want a race vehicle but I wanted something that could hold its own without any power adders. It runs like a bat out of hell I have the same problem as most with fast trucks that it doesnt hook for crap my truck breaks the 295-45-20 just at about any speed between 0 all the way up to 50. Considering a pro-charger in the near future

You have several options.
Remind him that he bought a sports car with a V6, then laugh at him.

Tell him to come to houston and I will smoke him in my brothers 06 saleen.

Or just tell him you like looking good going slow.

And it sounds like your having carb issues. What carb do you have on there.

Re: what'd it take to beat a 96 v6 F#%D mustang...

Have you guys raced at all yet? You may not have to do anything to your truck. I had a friend in HS that used to do the same thing with his new(at that time) 96 V6 stang. I had an 83 ElCamino SS with the stock 305 which I used to think ran pretty good, but in reality was a complete turd. I never got to actually race him side by side, but going by timing certain roads, I definetly would've had him beat. Of course, my black marks were always longer than his too.

Anyway, it sounds like you have carb problems, definetly accelerator pump issues. We need to know what carb you have. Actually, tell us your whole setup, (intake, carb, ignition, exhaust) and we'll help you where we can. There's lots of ways to increase power without spending lots of $$$.

Just remind him you drive a Chevy, and don't have anything to prove.

Tell him you'll whoop em with a 4 cylinder and go get yourself a cheap Honda CB750 (thats Safe to ride). And then you all can have a good laugh when you are at the end of the run finishing off a cold one while he's still makin his way down the run.

My wife has told me several times that when her corolla dies, she wants a V6 05+ mustang. I told her she has to get a GT in case I have to drive it someday

...or she wants a Vue. Kind of extremes...

Re: what'd it take to beat a 96 v6 F#%D mustang...

Just wondering if any of you have ever driven a V-6 Mustang. My wife has an '03 V-6 Mustang, and while it's a nice little cruiser, it ain't no race car. I don't know about the '05 plus cars, but there's no way in hell i would run it against a 350 Chevy. I have an '05 GMC Canyon (5 cylinder) and it'll stomp the wife's V-6 Mustang.

I drove an 07 V6 rental, and it'll boil the tires, or so I am told?! The newer V6's are no slouches.

You need to get rid of the bog, sounds carb accelerator pump related as others have said, be sure the dist is in good working order (hei is preferred over the points dist too), so if you have points, upgrade to the hei. Floor shift is better than column, and a auto is best of all for lead footing it.

My wife wants a Fox body GT Stang, which is pretty cool. The only problem is she likes the GT's with the cheesy body kits and don't like the LX 5.0's at all.

Keep it at the track. You only get one life. Losing it racing some piece of **** mustang on a back road isn't worth it.

Personally, i like the '86 GT's the best. They were first year for fuel injection and the last year before they went to the ground effects.
