Weekend Bummer!!

I was installing my shifter linkange and noticed the nut that holds the linkage bracket on the 700r4 tranny is missing (along with the stock bracket). I took a closer look and it looks like it snapped off at some time. My question is how hard is it to fix and is it possible to use the new bracket and weld it to the rod? The new bracket has plent to sit on--actually the rod stick out past the bracket by 1/8th of an inch. So there would be plenty to weld to. This really sucks since that is the last thing I have to do underneath and it will hit 60 degrees tomorrow. I really wanted to take it out and play.

Re: Weekend Bummer!!

Go to NAPA and get a shifter shaft (I assume that is what you had break off) drop the pan and put it in. Seriously it only takes about an hour. If you weld it on you can bet your A$$ it will need to be removed at the most inconvenient time.

Have had to do the same thing myself.. Its pretty easy to due and most of the time it needs the filter changed anyway so spend the extra 15$ and get the filter kit with the gasket.

Re: Weekend Bummer!!

Heck I haven't even put fluid in it yet. I got the tranny, cleaned it, installed the Bowtie Overdrive kit and slapped in the truck. Never thought to check that out. I guess I will next time. So Napa carries these shafts?? Does Autozone or Orielly's carry them as well?

Re: Weekend Bummer!!

I just got mine out of a spare tranny i had laying around. No special tools just regular stuff. You might be able to get one from a junk tranny at the junk yard for little of nothing. No fluid is even easier. less messy.
