which manual transmission fits the best?

This is for the guys who prefer to bang gears. Which manual transmissions with 4 forward gears or more seem to fit the best in a low rounded hump style cab with the best shifter location?

I think we need some more info....

Are you going to use your truck like a truck, or is it a hot rod? Is gas mileage a concern? How much HP/TQ are you putting thru it?

I plan on using my truck as a hot rod. I would like to see some track time at the nearest drag strip with it but that will be few and far between, I would really like something that can get around the streets easily and good for tearing up these curvy and hilly country roads I have in my area. Also, I dont plan on running any more than about 400 horses in the truck.

If you're satisfied with a 4 speed then probably a Muncie, or a T-10, or maybe even a Saginaw. If you're wanting a 5 speed then a T56 or the aftermarket Tremec transmissions. Some might say you could get away with a T5 or a NV3500, but they aren't rated for that much torque. Although many guys are pushing the limits with them sucessfully.

That is kind of what I was thinking, one more question, with the t10 muncie and saginaw transmissions, will the shifter be placed where the lever will not hit a benc seat?

Hurst has a shifter for the muncie that is for the c10. I had to do a bit of bending on the bottom where it mounted and it works great.

T5 I wana say is limited to 300 Torque. And thats kinda pushing it. I'm gona be in trouble when I do my V8 swap. I would go with a TKO or if your pockets are deep or if your just lucky a T56. With my T5 I can cruise at 70mph at at about 21-2300 rpm with 3:73's and 15 225/60's. Go five speed. But with he 3 speed hump on the floor instead of the 4 speed hump it might be difficult to put anything behind that 400 Q monster. 4 speed might be your only option. Just what I was thinking when I did this same kinda thing last year.

Yeah, the four speed would have tobe the best choice for that low hump. I guess if I ever decideto play the overdrive game on down the road, I can put in a quick change rear end or even a gearvendors unit.

Yeah I have a Muncie in mine as well. Do you have any pics of that? The PO put buckets in mine but I just got a 40/20/40 bench and am looking for a hurst shift lever that will work.
