Re: what rearend do i have

there should be some numbers stamped into the axle tube ...think on the passenger side....those would help the gurus figure it out

Re: what rearend do i have

Perhaps an early 70's Blazer, Chevelle or Nova?

Re: what rearend do i have

A picture will help to quickly identify it.Impalas and caprices had coils,so did Chevelles and other GM's. Is it a 10 bolt or 12 bolt? Can we see the rear end cover?

i don't think 3:06 ratio was offered in the trucks ... maybe 3:08?

Re: what rearend do i have

71 and 72 Chevy's with disc brakes are 5 on 5 pattern from the factory. Chevy's had coil spring rear as an option. I've owned a 72 and a 71 that both where coil spring rear and 5 on 5 from the factory.

My point is 71-72 trucks that came with disc brakes on the front from the factory are 5 lug trucks. The earlier trucks with drums up front are 6 lug trucks. Chevy stopped putting coil spring rearends in any truck in 72. Therefore, if your rear axle is a truck axle, 5 lug, and on coil springs it had to have come from a 71 or 72 Chevy that came factory with disc brakes up front.. This is the only trucks that came with this combination from the factory.

Re: what rearend do i have

I am with the other guys here.

There should be a set of numbers on the passenger side axle tube with numbers.

Find it!

Post it!

And lets see if someone here can help ya!

agreed... Only 71-72 GM trucks had trailing arm coil spring mount rearends with 5 on 5 bolt pattern....
Now,... on the top of the passenger side axle tube, there will be some letters and numbers stamped into the housing. If you can get me the 3-lettered code(only 70-72 had 3 letter codes, 69 & earlier had 2 letter codes) (example...THA, TRS, RHB, RRS, etc) from this location, I am holding a piece of paper that tells what that axle originally had in it for gears, depending on code may tell me exactly what year the axle is from... PM me if needed...
Anyone else that needs 67-72 axle code referenced, PM me... I have a chart, but 1967 to 1972 only.
