Question Air Lockers ?

Anyone ever put these on a two wheel drive ? My old '69 gets in some deep sand sometimes . Just wondered if locking both rear wheels makes much difference .

I have one in the front of a 4x4. They can be run in the rear as well,but because of their expense, are often not.The reason for the ability to lock and unlock them is with the front axle, you cannot leave it locked all the time,as the truck would not want to turn. You only lock it when you need maximum traction. For the rear, you can run a posi. It has gears or clutches that allow for the different speed that each wheel will have gong around corners. I have used "Lok Rite" diffs in the rear of trucks that originally did not have a posi, as they do not require complete disassembly of the rear gears. Having power to both wheels will definitely help. Wider rear tires and an onboard air compressor will also help a lot, as you can air the tires down to 10-15 psi or so to get more contact, then air the tires back up before getting back on the road.

Detroit TruTrac are Limited slip good for front or back.

I run them in my 4x4 willys jeep and love them.They are a locker so if you have it on pavement and take a sarp turn you will scuff one of the wheel around and get a tire screech as well,this could be hard on your axles . They are purfect for dirt roads and off road use for sure.

How lockup-happy are they?

My dad had a 74 Camaro with a well built 396, TH400 and if that sucker shifted in the middle of a wet corner the locker would kick that tail out with no remorse.

They are Limited slips most of the Power will go to the tire with the traction. They will not lockup completly like a Detroit Locker that is both wheels all the time. I did not want a full locker in My CJ 5 because of the weather here and I gto pretty good prices for them on Ebay. I have not tried them out yet just getting done with putting all back together.

I had an ARB in my jeep and it worked well. Don't see why it wouldn't work just the same in a 2wd.

If it were up to me though, I'd go with a posi for a non-offroad rig
