TC problem (which seal is correct?)
85 K10 auto, 6.2 diesel
Front output seal was leaking, finally got the front yoke off, and old seal removed(PITA). Now the replacement seal does not look like the one that was in there. This is what NAPA shows for this part This is what the one I pulled out looks like This is the input seal from transmission TIA Mike 85 K10 mossey oak project |

No help here from me, but i feel your pain. had the same problem with an sm420 rear output shaft. I had to sit down with the timiken catalog and do it by specs. This might help if you have a micrometer.

some napa parts are made better than oem parts and may appear different than the original.if the I.D. and the O.D. are the same install the new seal and forget it.check the fit of the I.D by sliding it over the yoke and check O.D. against the old seal.looks like the replacement seal is a better design if it is indeed the right size.good luck

Thanks for the reply. I picked one up from the chevy dealer an hour ago
and it looks close to original. The one that came out was original and it had 2 springs and 2 lips. If this one last 24 years I'll be happy. Mike 85 K10 mossey oak project |

The two-lip seal is the correct one. It is "technically" sealing two things at the same time. It is keeping tranmission fluid out of the transfer case and gear lube out of the transmission on a common shaft.
