Bowtie emblem on hood

Hello,
I have a couple of questions concerning the chevy emblem on the hood. This is on my 61 3/4 ton. I've noticed that on some trucks there is the bowtie emblem with a chrome piece underneath it, almost shaped like a "V". On others, (like mine) there is no chrome, just the chevy emblem. Why the difference?
Also, my chevy emblem is suppose to be red, but it is black. It almost looks like the front lens came off. How can I make this look original?
Thanks for the help,
Joe

Re: Bowtie emblem on hood

the bowtie on the front with the v under it denotes a v8 for 60-61, the plain bowtie is a 6.
the side emblem should be red underneth
the center hood emblem should be red in the center

Re: Bowtie emblem on hood

Thanks for the help. Here's a picture of what is on the 61. I don't know if you can tell, but I think it might of had a red lens in the front and it must have fallen off and now all you see is the back of it. Any suggestions on what to do to make it look right?
If you notice right above it, there's orange paint. This was where the supposedly "flying apache" emblem was. The PO tried to sell me on it. I've taken it off since I found out here that there is no such thing on an Apache.
Lilred, we're right down the road from each other!!

Re: Bowtie emblem on hood

most likely the center of the emblem has been repainted.
they were just a one piece cast unit, with no plastic.

Should I replace this one?? Or have it painted?

I would just paint it. Its hard to find another one, I know I've looked. They come up from time to time on ebay. The v8 ones are real hard to find.
