Help with a spindle debate...
A guy I know with a 65 chevy truck says a guy "who knows" told him he just bolted up 73-87 drop spindles directly to his 64 a-arms....
I said I didn't think it was possible. But I also don't remember all the gory details you guys have spelled out on this board. And didn't have time to search it out. So I'm asking....Is it possible??

Re: Help with a spindle debate...
On my 66 I used 82 spindals, I just had to use 82 upper and lower ball joints, they were all mounted to my original upper and lower control arms.

I know you can on the 67-70 but you have to use the 73-up ball joints and tie rods. I don`t see why it wouldn`t work on a 64-66. Another option is replacing the entire front crossmember with a later year. It bolts right up with one new hole per side to be drilled.

Re: Help with a spindle debate...
From what I have read you could change the ball joints to the later model and bolt the spindle up. But then I believe you will have to change outer tie rod ends also. Maybe somebody else can confirm.

Re: Help with a spindle debate...
Yeah, you have to use the later outer tierods but to do that you need a special adjusting sleeve. here's a link talking about the sleeves... Or you can get the whole steering assy from a 71-87 truck.

Re: Help with a spindle debate...
The '73-'87 ball joints will fit the '63-'72 A-arms, and just use the complete '73-'87 steering linkage. Just have to drill holes for the idler arm
