Tested the new springs a little today!

I am having to do some resurface work in the pool base of a liner swimming pool, and I decided to delivery the supplies in my '69. I picked ten 40 pound bags of vermiculite and tried out the new springs. It didn't drop much at all, and did great on bumps, etc. I know its only 400 pounds, but they did great. I don't haul or tow much with this truck much, but its nice to know if I need to pick up an appliance or an engine block, it will do fine. The guy that I'm doing the job for gushed over the truck and had tons of questions about it, so that made me feel good!

72BlckButy, she's not rust-free, but its not too bad. The bed, doors, gate and fenders are rock solid. The cab is the worst part. It has a little in the driver's floor and the passenger rocker and some in the cowl. I have a super nice A/C cab that is going on it when I do paint, hopefully this summer. I have bought a new grill, bumpers, a dent and rust-free factory passenger fender and hood and 90% of the trim in preparation for paint. The only real body dent repair I'm to have to do it is the dinger in driver's side fender, and a few rock dings. I'm going back with the same red and white 2 tone. I also have a new Vintage Air A/C kit, a fresh roller cammed .030" over 350 with Vortecs on the stand and built 200-4R ready to go in. I have been holding off until I have the everything I need and all the money for paint because I don't want to put it down for long. I enjoy driving it way too much! I'm just steadily and quietly collecting parts and waiting for when I can start my buld thread!


Tallcountry, I'm using 2/4 McGaughy drop springs.

I'm running 245/60 R15's on the front and 275/60 R15's on the rear. The key to making the rear look so wide is that I'm running a 1.5" billet spacer rear. In stock form, the '67 - to mid 1970 model trucks had a 1.5" narrower rearend than the 71 - 72's. When I put these tires on there, the rear wheels set way back into the wheelwells, and front wheel track was wider than the rear. I just didn't like how it looked, so I added the spacer.

Here's the spacer, but this pic is on my blue '69. The frame, rearend, etc. on my '69 has been cleaned, painted and undercoated. Its not crusty like the blue one!

I got mine on ebay for around $100. There are some cast ones out that are cheaper and some people say they are fine, but I feel safer with the billet ones. I've used the billet ones on several cars and trucks over the years and they work great.
