Inline 6 Exhaust (repair)

Okay guys, I had a chance to slide under the '69 today and noticed that the original exhaust is going to need repaired. What size tubing are you 'sixer's' using and what type of muffler?

Stock, custom, and everything in between; post up your tips, tricks and pics!

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust (repair)

If you use a stock manifold you want to put a one size smaller flare inside the donut gasket. It will help keep the gasket from burning out.I found this out after I had the exhaust hooked back up.My exhaust has been there for years

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust (repair)

The exhaust out of my '68 Stepside's L6 292 is modified: Clifford headers -- 2" or 1-7/8"-- to dual exhaust pipes, and angled crossover tube to turbo mufflers and tailpipes exiting behind the rear tires.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust (repair)

Thanks for the pm lolife99, I will be sure to look into that when I get closer to putting in the new exhaust.

Anyone have any shots of their exhaust?

'68OrangeSunshine, I would love to see what you've done to your I6 and exhaust. Feel free to post away...

Black Beauty,
I would love to post some pix of my L6 and the crossover set up... Unfortunately I still can't figure out how to downsize my images. It keeps getting bounced. Maybe layer.

Send any extra pics you need downsized and I'll get them resized for you while I'm at it.

Sweet. Thanks. OK here's the narration:

292 L6 in '68 Chevy C/10 Stepside shortbed. Original engine #F0627XAE. [Rebuilt 2005.]
Bored .030-over. Badger pistons, chrome/moly rings, stock rods, stock crank. Crane 260 cam, Rhoads lifters, oversize intake valves (V8 307 type) 1.84", Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM AFB-type carb, '72 GM/Lokar throttle cable, Offenhauser intake, Clifford Research headers, Centerforce II clutch, turbo mufflers [don't remember what brand ] 1-7/8" or 2" pipes w/ angled crossover and exiting behind the rear tires.

I'll need to shoot a fresh pic of the underside to get the angle of the crossover... The guy who did it (in the mid '80s) at a local 4x4 & Differential shop --that was partial to search+ rescue trucks -- was a genius. Some kind of circle track mojo. Not in any book. Not an H-Pipe, not X-tubes, more of a russian <N>.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust (repair)

I'm running Clifford shorty's into 2- 2" pipes routed around the oil pan then going into a 2 1/2" pipe with an H-pipe and running through 2 Holley Flowtech mufflers exiting out under the rear bumper. It sounds pretty darn good and I'll get some sound footage if someone wants to post it.
