Interior/Exterior Differences - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just curious if anyone has a website or knowledge on or if there was any distinguishable differences in a 1980 Chevy or 1980 GMC pickup truck?

I found it interesting looking over my truck that I have a chevy grille and chevy tailgate but when I look at the cab the little emblems on the side say GMC hahaha.

Did the seats mount any different between the two?

I know there is a grille difference.

seat mounts the same unless one is low hump and the other is high hump transmission tunnel

so far as i can tell the only differences between chevy and gmc's is all cosmetic. like emblems and logos. the tranny tunnel height would just be the trans options difference

other wise it's the same truck but what i have heard GMC's has the better parts but i could be wrong

There is no difference in a GMC vs Chevy other than cosmetic. Grilles and Emblems, Everything else is identical, they are the same truck sans badging.

Yah I definitely confirmed by this that my trucks cab was replaced at sometime

The dash trim in the middle even said GMC Sierra

Yea, it's all cosmetic. Other than badging, grille treatment and tailgate stampings, nothing is different. Some people try to tell you that the GMC is more heavy duty, which is untrue. The only real difference is that the GMCs usually cost more than the Chevy equivalents. When the US military needed CUCV's, they didn't use GMC trucks and Jimmys, they used Chevy trucks and Blazers- and only because they were cheaper (not by much, but when you're ordering a fleet that big, a few hundred dollars adds up).

My best friend's father worked at the GM plant in Marion, IN. He'll tell you that the GMC is the better truck. When you ask him why, he'll say it's because he worked on them.
