From what I've gathered on here, the standard transmission was the 3-on-the-tree, with everything else (od, 4 speed, auto) being optional.

i'd still like to see an original BB/3-on-the-tree truck.

the 427 v8 on that medium duty's spid is the tall deck gasoline V8. I'm fairly sure there is no such thing as a 427 diesel, or at least it wasn't referred to as such.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

The 427 trucks I saw all had cable driven tachs in them, except for the one I bought. I was wondering about the diesel too but it was so long ago I may have missed it. I know when I talked to my dad he said it wasn't the same as what was in the cars and it wasn't worth getting back then. That was probably a mistake, you think!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

I had one of two identicle red with white top`68 CST shortbeds two brothers ordered. They had 396/3spd,tach,posi,and no power steering or power brakes...definately no air.If they were cars I`d say they were ordered to drag race.
So,Andy, you got your answer to varying option codes in the other thread.Different plants, huh?I never knew that.I just knew that the codes are all 3 digit at the dealer end.For years I didn`t pay attention to stuff like this.

How about this one another member posted from his`68?

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

How's about it! It looks like it has some options but you can't read it.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

I collect them, all that I can find. I think they are pretty neat. I have 3 from 1966, I have 35 from 1967, 38 from 1968, 46 from 1969, 53 from 1970, 73 from 1971, 211 from 1972 and 61 in a folder that are GMC's from any year. There is no better source of option documentation in my opinion.
Here's a nice one from 67, a GMC, (some did have them). I have kind of learned to never say "they never" or "they always" when speaking of SPIDS.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

I was noticing a few SPIDS actually indicated a chrome step bumper. My Dad is well over 75 he said every truck at the dealership ('69) didn't have a bumper on them. And they wanted $19 to install one. $20 for the (step) bumper kit. He installed his own because he thought it was too expensive.

Re: SPIDS:Many options w/o being loaded

I`ve only seen "chrome bumper" listed. That was the sport bumper.I believe you had to order a rear bumper.Sometime around`73 my state started inspections on trucks. They used to be able to come through w.no bumper.
