Hi from Greensboro

I'm a new member and the proud owner of a Jet Black '57 3100 in stock condition. It had a recent reconditioning by the previous NC owner but spent most of its life in Oconee County, GA as a tax-collector's personal truck. The 235 1-bbl and the 3-spd still work beautifully, but the front brakes are in good need of replacement. I got tired of trying not to steer into oncoming traffic when I just want to stop...

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the correct color for the wheels on the 1/2 ton? They are currently red and look pretty good but I'd like to put it back where they were originally.

The body is Jet Black, the interior is Granite Grey and the sheetmetal trim is Arctic Beige (or at least this white is trying to be Arctic Beige).

If anyone has an idea, please let me know. Searches on the net haven't been too helpful.

Thanks - Dave.

Re: Hi from Greensboro

Sounds like a sweet ride you've got for yourself. You definately gotta do something about those brakes though. That is almost more important than you posting some pictures of this truck. Okay, okay! It's a bit more important. We can't have you playing chicken with the on-coming traffic. Welcome to the site.

Re: Hi from Greensboro

Thanks for the welcomes - and sorry about not posting a pic. The ones I had on file were too large for upload. These ones compressed to less than 100K, so hopefully they'll show up.

When and if any one has a response re: the right wheel color it 'd be great to move on from the rat rod red idea. Cool, but too showy for a lowly old inline 6.

Glad to be part of this great forum.

Very nice truck. I kinda like the red, it gives it some contrast.

Re: Hi from Greensboro

Go to Jim Carter's Old Truck Parts site and look at the 55-59 catalog. In the front sections it tells about the different color combinations of wheels, trim, fenders, etc. My guess would be main body color.

Welcome from the mountains. It's nice to see someone else using their truck!

Re: Hi from Greensboro

Thanks, OrrieG. Great catalog by the way to bookmark (as I'd only been using Classic Parts to this point). Great info on the GMC and Chevys but nothing specific to the wheel color.
